This changed drastically with the introduction of discriminatory laws, ghettoization, and physical extermination. After World War II, the remaining and diminished Jewish population of Carpathian Ruthenia faced even greater hardship due to the intensifying antisemitism after 1967.
From 1974, mass emigration began to Israel, the United States, Canada, and other Western countries. By 1990, only a very small Jewish community remained in Munkács.
